Your time is super important, so don’t waste it on other things while you’re on a cruise. I’ve got 10 tips to save you time on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Here we go.
The saying “time is money” applies to business as well as your cruise vacation. Every minute you save now is extra time on your vacation once you get onboard the ship. And that’s important right? Your time onboard is limited.
One of my top pet peeves is wasting time that could have been saved. Put a little work upfront especially if its time spent at home so that things can move smoothly onboard.
Whether it saves you two minutes or ten minutes, it all adds up, and time saved also reduces stress. I love the feeling of knowing I bypass what would have otherwise caused me to wait longer. It’s like driving in the expressway on a highway when traffic is backed up without the extra cost of the, of course, the expressway.
So, here are 10 ways everybody can save time on a Royal Caribbean Cruise.
The Royal Caribbean App is just super important these days. So, make sure you download it now at home and not when you’re onboard the ship. Because you’re just going to waste more time.
Royal Caribbean will allow you to download the app for free while using their wi-fi on the ship even without an internet package. But the speeds are super slow. So, download the app while you’re at home when you have a fast internet connection.
More importantly, having the app installed and signed in will make, nearly, every aspect of the vacation, especially on embarkation day, so much smoother and faster.
Now, some people might prefer not to use the phone on their cruise, and I understand that. But there’s a difference between using the Royal Caribbean App and checking work email. Put your out-of-office message in your email but keep the Royal Caribbean App primed and ready.
While we’re talking about the Royal Caribbean App, there’s no excuse for not completing the online check-in before your cruise. My recommendation is to use the Royal Caribbean App to complete the check-in, in lieu of the Royal Caribbean website.
This is because the app can scan your passport and save you time entering all that stuff manually. As well as make the photo upload much easier because, of course, your phone has a camera.
If you enter all the information, take a selfie and add a credit card to your account, you’re going to fly through the cruise terminal during the check-in.
If you have My Time dining, you really want to make reservations ahead of time, so you don’t have to wait later on. My Time dining allows you to have a flexible dining schedule and you can simply go to the dining room and get a table.
The reality is having a reservation means you will wait less because there are two lines: people with reservations and people without. If you have a reservation, you will be seated sooner. So whenever possible, book a time in advance for you to wait less.
Not only will this next tip save you time, it’s always going to save you money. This is to pre-book your beverage packages, dining packages and internet packages.
An intangible benefit to pre-purchasing anything is it saves time onboard from doing the exact same thing which means more vacation time back to you.
Taking the time to purchase anything onboard does not take a lot of time. Let’s be honest with you. But every little bit helps and some purchases on the first day of the cruise can require waiting in line like the drink packages.
Oftentimes, I see people just waiting on the promenade and for their turn to sign a slip of paper that they want to buy the drink package.
Do this online and as an additional benefit, there’s also a pre-cruise discount if you book these online. So, save time and money, pre-book both and do yourself a favour.
All too often I’ll see a family standing on the pier trying to figure out what to do instead of going to a shore excursion. You have a limited amount of time in any Port of call you visit. And time wasted deliberating where to go means even less time to enjoy your tour.
So, your best bet is to look into what each port has to offer that your cruise can be visiting, of course. And then book something in advance or at least have a plan of what you’re going to do there.
Just like the tip about pre-purchasing packages, researching in advance will save you time and maybe even some money on those shore excursions.
Another really good idea is to read the cruise compass the night before. So, every night, your stateroom attendant will drop off a copy of the next day’s cruise compass and if they don’t, by the way, you can request one.
But this is the best time to check out what’s coming up the next day. Royal Caribbean offers a lot to do onboard their ships and it’s a really good idea to at least browse the next day’s activities to see what might be interesting to you.
Not only will perusing the cruise compass save you time and deciding what to do, you may discover an activity you really want to see. By doing this in advance, you’re going to reduce the chance of missing out on something like that.
Next is try to visit guest services at less busy times. When you’ve got a problem, guest services is almost always the go-to place to get resolved. But if it’s at all possible, try to go when there are less guests trying to do the exact same thing.
Guest service is open 24 hours and they can assist with so many issues. The best time to visit guest services is early in the morning, during dinner, while the ship is docked in port and late at night.
If your question or concern can wait a little bit like a billing issue, try to visit when the lines are much shorter or even non-existent.
If you’re visiting Labadee, there is a complimentary ferry that visits Columbus Cove. About halfway down the pier, there’ll be an area you can board a ferry boat to take you to the opposite end of Labadee and enjoy one of the quietest beaches available. And what’s more awesome is that the ferry is totally free.
If you’re at Perfect Day at CocoCay, there is also complimentary shuttle service that can take you all around the island. You’re going to find golf carts waiting to take guests off the ship as you disembark. And these cars will take you down the length of the pier and drop you off at the entrance of the island.
There’re also larger trams, at that point, that can take you around the island. These trams are not only great from getting from point a to point b, but they’re also a really good way to get around the land and see the island.
Whether by cart, tram or ferry, these free services are going to save you steps on what is likely going to be a very warm and sunny day in paradise.
My next step to save you time is use a travel agent. Travel agents are an amazing resource that costs you absolutely nothing extra to use. The best reason to use a travel agent is to save you time. They’re the ones sitting on hold when Royal Caribbean needs to be called to about some sort of an issue that you have.
Tasks like repricing, making special requests, dealing with weather events and more are some reasons why I use a travel agent every single time I book a cruise.
And while they’re saving you time, they also let you save some money as well, which is even an added benefit.
My last tip for saving time on your Royal Caribbean Cruise is to register your kids for Adventure Ocean on embarkation day. While you can sign your kids up for Adventure Ocean at any time, the best time to do it is on the afternoon the first day of your cruise. In the early afternoon, usually around 1pm, Adventure Ocean opens up their open house, so families can stop by to meet the staff and register.
The registration process is quick and doing it now means the crew members have everything you need to sign right then and there. As opposed to later, when they have to grab the sheets, and that means more time spent while also trying to drop your kids off.
So, there you have it 10 ways to save time on your Royal Caribbean Cruise. Hopefully, all 10 will help you out. Enjoy Cruising!
